Rockwell Automation China University Partnership Program
Introduction
Launched in 1998, Rockwell Automation's University Partnership Program (UPP) builds relationships between Rockwell Automation, Chinese Universities and industry in order to promote knowledge sharing, technology exchange, and the advancement of science and education in China. Rockwell Automation's contribution has been recognized by the China National Committee of Education and numerous universities and business. In 2004, the company was granted the "Special Award for Contribution to Education" "by the Ministry of Education, and in 2006, it received the "ASEA Special Contribution Award" by the Chinese Association of Automation.
Since 1998, Rockwell Automation has established automation labs in 70universities through the UPP, forming a network of Rockwell Automation labs that covers 70 provinces, municipalities, and the Hong Kong SAR.
In order to contribute to the quality of Chinese higher education and improve students' practical skills and problem-solving capabilities, the University Partnership Program develops automation curricula and experimental models in cooperation with university laboratories and industry partners. These activities have improved the standing of participating universities and provide students with an ideal environment for practice-oriented education.
As part of its cooperation with partner universities, Rockwell Automation provides continual updates to the automation technology in university labs. In further support of Chinese higher education, Rockwell Automation has awarded annual scholarships and certificates of excellence to outstanding students and teachers. As of the end of 2015, Rockwell Automation has donated equipment RMB 92 million to various university partners and provided scholarships to teachers and students worth RMB 9.5 million. Donations to date total RMB 100 million, with further donations pledged going forward.
Rockwell's cooperation with its university partners has produced remarkable results. The advanced technology in Rockwell laboratories has helped universities produce world-class automation engineers who are well-trained in both theory and practice, making them more competitive in the job market. Each year, over 20,000 students learn from state-of-the-art automation technologies and equipment in Rockwell Automation laboratories, including programmable logic controllers (PLC) and automation network systems. Approximately 150 graduate theses are written and numerous experiment models are completed in Rockwell-sponsored laboratories. To date, Rockwell-sponsored laboratories have published over 300 academic papers, translated six million words of Rockwell Automation's manuals, and compiled over 60 textbooks and experimental instruction books. They have also conducted substantial customer training and academic research in support of Rockwell Automation product lines.
The Rockwell Automation University Partnership Program is a long-term commitment by Rockwell Automation to China's universities, industry, and economic development. Through this Program, Rockwell Automation will help China keep pace with the latest technologies and maintain its position as one of the world's leading industrial centers.
